Ylber Marku

Ylber Marku is Lecturer in World History at the Department of History of the School of Humanities, Zhejiang University. He is a Cold War historian with research interests in Global Cold War, Sino-Albanian Relations, World History, East European and Modern European History, Global South in the Sixties, and Albanias communist past.

Dr. Marku obtained his PhD in History at Lingnan University, Hong Kong, in November 2017. Before the doctoral studies, he studied at the University of Padua, Italy, where he obtained his Bachelor degree in Political Science, and also his Master’s degree in Politics of European Union.

In the period from 2018 to 2021 Dr. Marku was Postdoctoral Research Fellow in World History at the School of International Relations, Xiamen University. He worked also as a Research Associate for a short-term project during 2018 at the Department of Chinese Culture of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Dr. Marku has contributed with several publications in leading journals in his field such as in Cold War History, Journal of Cold War Studies (forth.), The International History Review, and in China with the Journal of Cold War International History Studies (Shanghai). He has also contributed with two book chapters, one in Italy and the other in cooperation with the Center for International Cold War History Studies of East China Normal University. He is currently working on several projects, and on the completion of his first monograph.

Prior to his current appointment, he has taught classes of World History and Civilizations, and Cold War History.

Dr. Marku has been invited to give speeches in several academic conferences and workshops organized, among others, by The Hong Kong University, Hong Kong (PRC), Lancaster University (UK), University of Vienna (Austria), and Leipzig University (Germany).

As a professional service, Dr. Marku has also provided scholarly peer reviewing for articles related to his areas of expertise submitted to different journals such as to Journal of Cold War Studies, Quaderni Storici, and Southeastern Europe.

Before coming to China, Dr. Marku has lived in different European countries where he became proficient in several languages, and currently he is also learning Chinese.
