ZHANG Zhengping is a Lecturer of history at Zhejiang University, where she teaches history of Western Historiography and history of Great Britain. She received her Ph.D. on Western Aesthetics at Beijing Normal University in June 2009 with the dissertation on ‘Beyond Sense and Reason: An Inquiry on the Aesthetics in the Scottish Enlightenment’.
Her research is inter-disciplinary, included history, philosophy and economics. She got the Literature Degree in Beijing Normal University and won the postdoctoral fellowship with research in the history of Economic thought in Zhejiang University. During the February 2016 to February 2017, she was a visiting scholar in the School of Social and Political Sciences in the University of Glasgow, with her project on Historiography in the Scottish Enlightenment.
She has already published several academic theses in professional journals such as On Adam Smith’s Historical Narrative and the Science of Human Nature, in Historiography Quarterly; Of The Theory of “Civil Society” in the perspective of Scottish Enlightenment, And of its Theoretic Variations between Britain and Germany, in Der Wendepunkt der krise: die conservative Revolution in Deutschland; The Theory of Sentimental Justice: Back from Poetic Justice to Scottish Enlightenment, Journal of Zhejiang University (Humanities and Social Science) etc.
Dr. Zhang’s recent research interests have included Scottish Enlightenment, British History and history of Western Historiography. The focus on her research is the historiography in the Scottish Enlightenment, which included the methodology of Scots’ history. Her book ‘Passions and Wealth: The Science of Human Nature and Political Economy of David Hume’ will be published in August 2017 by Zhejiang University Press.
